Julien discovers music composition in 2005 at the University of Birmingham (England), where he is currently completing a Doctorate (PhD) in composition with Professor Jonty Harrison.

His acousmatic music is based on field recordings and follows mainly the French tradition of musique concrète. Live instrumental music still takes an important place in his work and he has worked (composition + workshop) with professionals from the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group (BCMG), the Welsh National Opera (WNO), Music Theatre Wales and the REPertory Theatre among others. He’s recently been finalist of the International Composition Competition  METAMORPHOSES in Brussels.

As an active member of the Birmingham ElectroAcoustic Sound Theatre (BEAST), he plays and spatialises his own and others composers’ work around the U.K. and Europe. In 2010 he won the competition L’Espace du Son in Brussels.

In 2011 he co-founded BiLE (the Birmingham Laptop Ensemble) and he is a founder member of composers’ collective SOUNDkitchen (Birmingham).

Julien actively collaborates with other artists such as choreographer Shang Chi Sun and Rosie Kay, composer Annie Mathani and other member of BiLE and SOUNDkitchen among others.
